Celebs Who Claim They're Green but Guzzle Gas

Hybrid cars are all the rage in Hollywood. Celebrities drive them like they're a badge of honor. You save a few gallons of gas, you save the planet. Right? Well, not when you hop on a private jet and burn enough fuel to propel NASCAR through 2050.

Of course, the stars need to go here and there. The location shoots, the fabulous vacations, etc. But that's why God created United Airlines. G-IV's, on the other hand, were created in the image of precious celebs.

Julia Roberts

On the ground: Roberts drives a Prius, which gets (at best) 60 miles to the gallon, shaving 30 miles off a normal car's mpg.
In the air: Chicago/LA, 1,749 miles in a private jet, the route she took with Rupert Everett while shooting "My Best Friend's Wedding."
Gas guzzled: 2,100 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius Penance: Julia would have to drive 30,000 miles, or roughly once around the earth and then some to even out her consumption in the air.
So Julia says: No word yet from Julia's rep.

Jennifer Lopez

On the ground:
J-Lo tools around in her 60 miles-per-gallon Prius.
In the air: LA /New York, 2,475 miles in a private jet. Lopez was actually sued by a private jet company for allegedly skipping out on the bill, though she says it's all a misunderstanding and she was not supposed to be billed.
Gas guzzled: 2,750 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance:
She'd have to drive 45,000 miles, and that's a lot longer for Jenny than just going down the block. It's actually more like twice around the earth.
So Jennifer says: There was no comment from Lopez's rep.

George Clooney

On the ground: George favors a Tango, an electric car that gets a whopping 135 miles to the charge.
In the air: Los Angeles/Tokyo, 5500 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
7,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Electric shocker: Even with his super-saver Tango, he'll have to drive over 57 oceans -- Pacific Oceans to break even.
So George says: Clooney's rep, publicist Stan Rosenfield, tells TMZ, "You clearly have no understanding of certain people's need for private transport," and points out that Clooney often has "no control" over his travel schedule.

Brad Pitt gets off his private jetBrad Pitt

On the ground:
Eco-champ Brad is yet another Prius-lover, and he reportedly has several hybrids in his stable.
In the air: Los Angeles/Namibia, 9,400 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
11,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance: Brad burned enough fuel to take a Prius to the moon.
So Brad says: Pitt didn't have any comment. His rep tells TMZ that Pitt is out of the country.

Leo fueling his PriusAnd the true-blue Green Award goes to ... Leo DiCaprio.

On the ground: Leo drives a Toyota Prius
In the air: Leo flies just like us folk -- commercial, unless he positively must fly private because of scheduling.
Prius penance: None.

91. Clooney might want to stop preaching to others and stop being so full of it.

Maybe give more money to his "pet" cause in Sudan . if he has given anything at all who knows with that guy what the truth is .

92. Just FYI---a Toyota Prius does not get 60mpg. Autoweek tested them and they get about 35mpg. It's more image than anything.

93. HMMM you think they drive the hybrids all the time or just when going for a PC interview ,etc . They have a fleet of cars and might own a hybrid but thats not their main car . Its just to impress PC bunch than they get right back in their stretch SUV.

94. They are hypocrites. They may as well drive the Jags and the Bentleys, etc., they are only fooling themselves and the idiots who defend them. The green cars are strictly for public viewing. It's a sad statement they make for this country...but than they don't really care for this country. They care only for what this country does for them, ie the idiots who defend them.

95. These Hollywood liberals are hypocrites about everything else. They are against letting corporate executives get tax write-offs, but they want to write off everything that is involved in their lavish lifestyles. Make the rich corporate executives pay more taxes but give the entertainment industry all the breaks in the world! All the lavish parties, ect. that we see on TV are partially financed by the taxpayers. Again - HYPOCRITES!

97. I am sorry to say that my military service can't be used to demonstrate anything other than to recall the services of the KC-135 refueling tankers we were maintaining- back in the 70's- which helped maintain the Cold War balance- which allowed George and Jennifer and Julia to now be famous- due to our having prevented WW3 :)

WELL EVERYBODY??? Hows THAT for Important??:)

Yes, George- YOU!

Not more important than we are- ESPECIALLY- we former members of SAC!

Thanks-

98. i would just like to point out that all of the people who made it on this list are people who drive hybrid or electric cars. obviously, the point of this artical is to bash on these celebrities, because they "pretend" to care about the environment. i'm sure they could all fly commercial. but they could also drive suvs. you should give them a little credit- at least they actually drive these cars. yes they might have to drive to the moon to even out the pollution they have caused, but at least they aren't adding even more pollution by driving gas gusslers.

99. What is worse, driving a gas guzzler or living in a house that is so big that it requires more energy to heat or cool it than most of us make in a year. Don't forget alot of people could live in smaller dwellings and save alot of energy. So cars are not the only problem wasting energy.

100. Cudos to Leo for being green. But wait, is that a cell phone in his ear while he's pumping gas? Green or not that is a great way to waste alot of fuel as a result of an explosion!

101. If they make the money, they can choose how to spend it. They have worked hard (usually) to achieve their goals and are blessed with talent. More power to them. We are the ones who support their lifestyles by our own choices, after all. However, I don't appreciate it when they get on a political soapbox and preach socialist/marxist/redistributionist theories. Just enjoy your talent and what it has brought you, perhaps recognize how fortunate you are, and spare us any holier than thou platitudes.

102. The leftist, hypocritical celebrities are a disgrace to the USA. They are no more interested in conservation than they are willing to go to some far away dirty little dictator run country to earn their fabulous incomes. Yet they will criticize the very nation that made them rich, AND drive around in their respective little Toyota Pious (Oops, I mean Prius) like they are somehow contributing to this nation. Conservation by a bunch of limousine liberals? What a joke.

103. Can't believe people are making such a big deal about flying private or otherwise. I fly commercial most of the time but if I am on a short schedule or have a meeting that I don't know how long it will go being able to fly private means being able to make my schedule.

Hey at least they are making an effort on the ground to save gas and who knows what choices they made when they flew, they could have flown on a larger private jet and who knows what their schedule was like.

104. George Clooney is like some peter pan who will not grow up. He is a mental idiot basically. What man is sooooo afraid of committment and procreating as much as this buffoon is????? He is scary.

105. I can't believe these celebrity protectors. No one "threw" these people into the spotlight. They seek it out, even demanding it. Then they act "shocked" when people ogle them. Whine whine whine!

I just remember Barbra Streisand (BS) the ultimate snob preaching to us low lifes she won't let look at her when she walks down her hotel hallway that we need to line dry our clothing all the while she is living in a huge mansion with dozens of bedrooms, bathrooms, pools, etc. in addition to her other "homes." What lame excuse are you apologists for these snobs going to give her for her hypocricy demanding we line dry our clothes, drive less etc. so she can live, alone with her snob husband, in a home that could house hundreds of homeless people. If she is that worried why doesn't she take them in?
